Harborside Health Center, California's most famous medical-marijuana dispensary, is the subject of Weed Wars, the stoner reality-TVseries rolled out by Discovery on Dec. 1. In the first of four episodes, Harborside deals with a $1.1 million tax debt they owe the cityof Oakland.
Weed Wars' main characters are the DeAngelo brothers, Steve and Andrew, who co-own Harborside along with Dave Wedding Dress. The iconic pig-tailed and porkpie hat-wearing DeAngelo known as Stevie D (right) gets plenty of time to tout his company ("the largest retailer of cannabis on the entire planet") and himself ("I'm an agent of change just working to bring the truth about the cannabis plant to the rest of the world"). Where Steve is dead serious, Andrew (left) provides comic relief as a kind of Jeff Goldblum goof (see his quote below). Chief financial officer Luigia Zamarra deals with the tax crisis. Purchasing manager Rick Pfrommer has the enviable job of acquiring new product ("I love looking at cannabis"). The wildcard on the Harborside team is sales associate (a.k.a. budtender) Terryn Smith. He complains about being underpaid, forcing him to grow plants with Farmer Jon to make ends meet. "I know for a fact that I smoke too much," he admits. Terryn's psychiatrist mother Sandra doesn't care for his career choice. "Something's got to change," he acknowledges. Meanwhile, back at Harborside, the DeAngelos get a slight reprieve from the City Council - they can spread the debt over three payments. Phew! Crisis averted.
What's surprising about Weed Wars is that there's no central female characters. We meet Nayir, Steve's step-daughter, for a minute and there's Dr. Smith, but Harborside (and hence Weed Wars) appears to be a boy's club.
For those who say we oppose marijuana legalization. What your really saying is "We support more traffic accidents and we want pot in our school yards so our children can say no thanks" Unreal!!

ALL cannabis use is medical! The purpose of medicine is to make you feel better and keep you healthy. 'Nuff said.

"We do not support the legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes."
Why not? because your business would be hurt?
