Bears Boot Hurd After Coke Bust PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 December 2011 21:44

Chicago Bears special teams player Sam Hurd was arrested on Dec. 14 after he agreed to purchase a kilo of cocaine from a federal confidential informant. The Bears swiftly released Hurd, who posted a $100,000 bond.

Sam HurdHurd allegedly told the informant that he could move five to 10 kilos per week as well as a half ton of marijuana. The coke was priced at $25,000 per kilo and the weed was $450 per pound (most likely Mexi shwag).

Even more explosive is the allegation that Hurd was selling to players, which his lawyer Brett Greenfield called "patently and totally false."

The sting took place at Morton's The Steakhouse in Rosemont. After he took the bag containing the coke, Hurd was nabbed and charged with conspiring to distribute more than a half-kilo of cocaine. He spent two days locked up at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago before posting the cash bond. Hurd, who is from San Antonio, will be arraigned in Dallas.

Hurd excelled on the Bears' special teams squad and doubled as a wide receiver. This year he had eight receptions. Prior to joining the Bears in 2011, he played for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2010. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, he wasn't drafted but the Cowboys signed him as a free agent. The Bears gave Hurd a three-year contract prior to he beginning of this season.
