In their Rolling Stone cover story, guitarist Dan Auerbach reminisces about tripping on mushrooms while traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. "We opened the door (of the van) at one point at a truck stop, fully on mushrooms," he says. "It was like when they went into Willy Wonka's. I haven't done them for a long time, but mushrooms rule."
While in high school in Akron, Ohio, Auerbach was captain of the soccer team and, according to the article, "smoked a lot of pot." Drummer Pat Carney recalls, "Dan had hair down to here in high school. In the hallways he'd look all glazed out, chilled out."
More cool quotes:
• Carney: "Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world."
• Auerbach: "I love Creedance. If there's any musician I've ever aspired to be like, it's probably John Fogerty."
