The Black Keys on Magic Mushrooms PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 January 2012 00:33

After eight years, the Black Keys have climbed to the top of the rock world. The band's latest album El Camino peaked at No. 2 on the charts. Watch "Lonely Boy" below

The Black Keys - Rolling StoneIn their Rolling Stone cover story, guitarist Dan Auerbach reminisces about tripping on mushrooms while traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. "We opened the door (of the van) at one point at a truck stop, fully on mushrooms," he says. "It was like when they went into Willy Wonka's. I haven't done them for a long time, but mushrooms rule."

While in high school in Akron, Ohio, Auerbach was captain of the soccer team and, according to the article, "smoked a lot of pot." Drummer Pat Carney recalls, "Dan had hair down to here in high school. In the hallways he'd look all glazed out, chilled out."

More cool quotes:

• Carney: "Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world."

• Auerbach: "I love Creedance. If there's any musician I've ever aspired to be like, it's probably John Fogerty."
