One of Hollywood's favorites, quirky actor Johnny Depp has portrayed Hunter S. Thompson several times, as well as the smuggler in Blow.

Johnny DeppBorn on June 9, 1963 in Kentucky (like his hero, Thompson), Depp was a TV star (21 Jump Street)  before his film career took off. From his breakout role in Edward Scissorhands in 1990 to last year's The Rum Diary, about Thompson's early years as a journalist, Depp's appeared in 35 movies, including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Donnie Brasco, Dead Man, Blow, From Hell, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland and the three Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Depp told Film Review, "I'm not a great pothead or anything like that… but weed is much, much less dangerous than alcohol."

In 2004, he caught flack for saying it would be better if his kids smoked pot with him. "I was talking about specifically marijuana," Depp explained in USA Today. "Rather than have them go out on the street and get some nasty, potentially fatal stuff, I would rather say, 'Look, this is marijuana. I know where it came from. And if you really need to try it, try it here in the house and be safe.' They immediately misconstrued it, like I was prepared to go out and score all kinds of drugs for my kids. It was just ludicrous."

He lives in France with Vanessa Paradis and their two children, Emily-Rose and Jack.

Depp will next appear in movie adaptations of 21 Jump Street and The Lone Ranger.
