Whitney Houston's 2000 Marijuana Bust PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 13 February 2012 00:20

Twelve years ago, Whitney Houston was arrested for marijuana possession. The singer and her then-husband Bobby Brown were stopped in at Kona Airport in Hawaii on Jan. 11, 2000. Houston was apprehended when the plane landed in San Francisco.

Whitney HoustonAirport security confiscated two plastic bags containing a half ounce of pot as well as three partially smoked joints. Brown was not busted. Houston eventually pled no contest and paid $3,000 to an anti-drug program for youths.

In 2009, two years after her 15-year marriage to Brown ended, Houston told Oprah Winfrey about her crack use: "We weren't buying, like, $20 jumbos; we were paying money, we were buying, like, an ounce... We weren't doing, like, pipe smoking, we didn't get that far…. You put your marijuana, you lace it (with cocaine), you roll it up and you smoke it in your weed... It's almost like heroin and cocaine speedballing, but you level it off with the marijuana."

Houston died on Feb. 11 at the the Beverly Hills Hilton. She was found in the bathtub and pronounced dead at 4 pm. Reports are surfacing that Houston was under the influence of a number of prescription drugs, including Xanax, Valium and Lorazepam (a.k.a. Ativan, for anxiety), and had been drinking heavily during her stay at the hotel. However, Houston did not drown; she was dead before sinking underwater in the tub.
