Frankly, Barney Gives a Damn
Now we know why Rep. Barney Frank is so emphatic about reforming marijuana laws. Two years ago his boyfriend James Ready was busted for growing pot in Maine. Charged with possession and cultivation, Ready paid a fine. Frank, who says, "I've never smoked marijuana," wasn't charged.
California's Top 40 Cannabis Counties
Marijuana plant seizures soared in California in 2009. CAMP reports that nearly 4.5 million plants were pulled, compared to 2.9 million in 2008. The state's leading pot-growing counties are Shasta, Lake, Mendocino, Fresno, Los Angeles and Trinity.
Shasta: California's Top Pot County
Move over Lake County, California has a new leading marijuana producer. CAMP reports that 558,000 plants were seized in Shasta County this year, compared to 507,000 for Lake. In 2008, Lake led all of the state's 58 counties.
Hollywood's Top 29 Potheads
Fox must be reading CelebStoner. They've assembled a list of the entertainment industry's leading tokers and marijuana advocates. Twelve of the 29 are Top CelebStoners. One surprise: "Grey's Anatomy"'s Ellen Pompeo, who recently signed the Tax Cannabis 2010 petition.
Maine, Breckenridge Pass Pot Ballots
Maine voters have amended their 10-year-old medical-marijuana law "to allow the treatment of more conditions and to create a regulated system of distribution," meaning dispensaries. Question 5 passed by with 61% of the vote. In Breckenridge, Colorado, Measure 2F was approved by a 73% margin. It legalizes the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, and decriminalizes the sale and possession of paraphernalia.
Dopey DA Threatens L.A. Dispensaries
CelebStoner's legal expert Allison Margolin (a.k.a. L.A's Dopest Attorney) takes aim at Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley and his anti-medical marijuana crusade. Margolin spoke at the SmokeOut "Legalization" panel in San Bernardino on Saturday.

Inside the Funk Festival Raid
On August. 1, a task force raided the Church of Universal Love and Music's Funk Festival in Acme, Pennsylvania, arresting 28 people. "It's one thing to get busted in the parking lot for smoking a joint," writes Chuck Haber. "It's something else to be backstage at a show and suddenly a guy in a ninja outfit jumps out of the bushes and puts a gun to your head."

File this California supergroup under Monsters of Marijuana Folk. Their Emerald Triangle Tour, conceived by L.A'.s "Farmer Dave" Scher and featuring Neal Casal and Vetiver's Andy Cabic, is winding its way through harvest country spreading positive vibes and psychedelic tunes.
Phish Festival 8: The Balloon Burble
It was a party in the desert for Phishheads attending Festival 8 in Indio, California. During a second set that featured "Down with Disease" and "Harry Hood" on Oct. 30, a curious "blimp-like, balloon structure wired for psychedelic color" made an appearance.
Snoop Dogg: 'Smoke Weed, Motherf•••kers!'
Top CelebStoner Snoop Dogg ends his concerts with a simple marijuana message. This was case at New York's Nokia Theatre where the Dogfather headlined the Wonderland High School Tour also featuring Method Man & Redman and Devin the Dude, who joined Snoop during his set.
PBS' 'Botany of Desire'
It took eight years for Michael Pollan's "Botany of Desire" to be adapted for television, and it was well worth the wait. Part 3 of the PBS special focuses on an "incredibly valuable and interesting plant called cannabis."

It was Cheech & Chong day at the Cypress Hill SmokeOut on Oct. 24. Tommy Chong joined B-Real and Lou Dog for a panel discussion, and Cheech & Chong performed a music set before Cypress Hill, Sublime, Kottonmouth Kings, Redman & Method Man, Bad Brains, Deftones and SlipKnot took the stage.
Cy Young Stoner: Giants' Lincecum Busted for Pot
All-Star pitcher Tim Lincecum was arrested for marijuana possession during a traffic stop in Southern Washington State on Oct. 30. When police pulled over his Mercedes for speeding and smelled pot, he surrendered an eighth-ounce of weed and a pipe.
Yanks Smoke Phillies
It took six games for the Yankees to defeat the Phillies and win their 27th World Series. Delirious Yankee fans hit the streets and hoisted one particularly stony banner that read: IN NEW YORK WE SMOKE PHILLIES. They even painted a Philly Blunt cigar!
Andre Agassi Admits Meth Use
Tennis legend Andre Agassi lied about his use of crystal meth after failing a drug test in 1997, according to his new autobiography, "Open." Indeed, Agassi opens up in the book. Biker Grounded by Drug Test
A positive test for marijuana has resulted in the three-month suspension of cyclist J.D. Swanguen, The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency says "a metabolite of marijuana or hashish" was found in Swanguan's test.
Ricky Williams on a Roll
In his second season back in the NFL after a marijuana-related suspension, Miami's Ricky Williams is hitting his stride. The 32-year-old running back torched the Jets for 138 total yards on Oct. 12 and ran for three TDs vs. the Saints on Oct. 24.

'Smoke Two Joints': From the Toyes to Sublime
Originally written and recorded by the Toyes in 1982, "Smoke Two Joints" was famously covered by Sublime a decade later on "40 Oz. to Freedom." It's listed among the Top 10 greatest marijuana songs in "Pot Culture." Watch and listen to four versions.
Reunited Sublime's 'What I Got'
The new version of Sublime featuring Rome Ramirez on vocals and guitar debuted at the SmokeOut on Oct. 24. They performed all of the band's hits, including "What I Got" (recorded here live on KROQ in L.A.) and "Smoke Two Joints."
'Whole Lotta Love': Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of 'Led Zep II'
It's the 40th anniversary of "Led Zeppelin II," released on Oct. 22, 1969. The first of Zeppelin's many No. 1 albums, "Led Zep 2" is arguably their greatest, featuring the band's biggest hit, "Whole Lotta Love" (No. 4, 1970), and a slew of other classics, such as "Heartbreaker," "Ramble On" and "What Is and What Should Never Be."
John Mayer's 'Who Says'
Channelling his inner Paul Simon, John Mayer strums an acoustic guitar on the first single from his upcoming "Battle Studies" album. "Who says I can't get stoned," Mayer sings. "Plan a trip to Japan alone / Doesn't matter if I even go / Who says I can't get stoned?"

After taking a year off, the Cypress Hill Smokeout is back on Oct. 23-24 at San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California. Cypress Hill, the Deftones, SlipKnot, Sublime, Method Man and Redman, and Kottonmouth Kings are the headliners. This version of "I Wanna Get High" was recorded at the 2007 SmokeOut.
Brad Pitt: Top CelebStoner
Brad Pitt, who played stoner Floyd in "True Romance" and has been known for his pot-smoking over the years, was voted the 39th Top CelebStoner. He joins fellow actors Jack Black, Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Cameron Diaz and Mary-Louise Parker.
Megan Fox
Sultry actress Megan Fox, who's appeared in both "Transformers" movies, joins fellow Stoner Starlets Mary-Louise Parker Cameron Diaz, Kristen Stewart, Sarah Silverman and Adrianne Curry as the 38th Top CelebStoner. "I smoke weed," says Fox. "I hope they legalize it."
Joe Rogan
Standup comic Joe Rogan has been voted the 37th Top CelebStoner. Rogan was an overnight sensation as host of "Fear Factor" and has become a serious pot activist who believes that "legalization would completely change the direction of our society."
Louis Armstrong
Born 60 years ago on Aug. 4, Louis Armstrong was a lifelong "gage" smoker, the first celebrity arrested for marijuana (in 1931) and encouraged Pres. Dwight Eisenhower to legalize it in the '50s. Armstrong joins CelebStoner Legends Bob Marley, Jerry Garcia, Peter Tosh and George Carlin.
B-Real
One of the most vocal marijuana advocates in the music industry is now a Top CelebStoner. Cypress Hill co-founder B-Real joins the illustrious club, becoming the 36th Top CelebStoner. "I will do my best to uphold the title," B-Real says. "I will keep fighting for legalization."
