Hollywood free spirit Shia LaBeouf was born on  June 11, 1986  in Los Angeles, California to hippie parents Jeff and Shayna LaBeouf. Shia started his acting career when he was 12.

After appearing on several TV shows, LaBeouf began to get movies roles such as Cooper in Bobby, Emilio Estevez's reimagining of the Robert Kennedy assassination. His character takes LSD, so Shia consulted Jeff: "My dad was a big Tim Leary fan in his day, and he had tripped on acid. So my father was very descriptive about the high and what happens, and he broke down the timeline for me."

Jeff LaBeouf ultimately had a major drug problem. "My dad was a drug dealer for most of my life," Shia explains. "I’m sure there was a time when drugs were really fun for my dad, but after you have a kid, the party is over. I got to grow up in a situation where drugs were demonic. To watch your dad going through heroin withdrawals is something that would stray you from doing any of that. He also grew up in a different time where literally they’d line up coke lines on the Craft services tables for grips... Being on coke I would die. I just know myself enough."

'My parents always thought weed was healthier than alcohol. If you look at the science of it, it’s the truth. Nobody has ever died smoking weed.'

LaBeouf was soon nailing major roles. He's appeared in the first three Transformers movies, Disturbia, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Eagle Eye, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Lawless, The Company You Keep, Charlie Countryman and Nymphomanic.

He also directed Kid Cudi's "Marijuana" video, which was filmed at the 2010 Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam

His father turned him on to pot when he was just 10 years old: "My dad did a lot of things. He was a clown. He sold snow cones. He did stand-up comedy. He even went on tour with the Doobie Brothers as their opening act. He was a Vietnam vet, an artist, an explorer of life - just an adventurer.”

About his own drug use, LaBeouf says: "To say I've never smoked would be insane. To say I never had a drink would be insane. I mean I had a drink at my bar mitzvah. I had my first joint before I had my first drink. My parents always thought weed was healthier than alcohol. If you look at the science of it, it’s the truth. Nobody has ever died smoking weed... I smoke cigarettes but I don’t drink coffee because I get anxiety attacks."

LaBeouf's cigarette habit has gotten him into trouble on several occasions. He was arrested in Burbank, California on Feb. 14, 2008 for smoking on the sidewalk. After blowing it off, police issued a warrant one month later. In April 2008, LaBeuof paid a $500 fine.

On Nov. 5, 2007, LaBeouf was arrested in Chicago and charged with criminal trespassing. Allegedly drunk, he refused to leave a Walgreen's at 2:30 am. The charge was eventually dismissed.

On July 27, 2008, a car accident left his hand crushed and required surgery. After the accident, during which his pickup truck flipped over in Hollywood, police determined he was under the influence of alcohol. The DUI charge was dropped, but LaBeouf's license was suspended for a year because he'd refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

On June 26, 2014, LaBeouf was arrested at Studio 54 in New York during a performance of Cabaret. After smoking in th theater and heckling the actor, police apprehended him at intermission and charged him with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment.

After the latest incident, LaBeouf reportedly checked into rehab for alcohol abuse. He's dating Mia Goth.
