In her acceptance statement for being voted Top CelebStoner, Americans for Safe Access' executive director humbly writes: "While I am neither a celebrity nor a stoner, I will continue to work with patients across the U.S. to make sure that they receive the treatment they need without fear of legal sanction or the challenges of safe access. I challenge your readers to join me in this important fight by becoming a member of ASA."

Sherer founded ASA in 2002 as a way to combat the DEA's war on medipot in California and to educate people about the medical uses of marijuana. Basd in Oakland, ASA focuses on patients rights, regualrly organizing alerts about raids, hearings and protests. The latest press release from ASA - Victims of DEA Raids to Testify at L.A. City Council - calls for "an end of DEA tactics aimed at undermining state law." 

A medical patient herself, Sherer suffers pain, muscle spasms and inflammation associated with torticollis, a neurological movement disorder that causes the head to tilt. It's also known as wry neck.

ASA boasts 30,000 members and, chapters and affiliates in 40 states.
