 Leighton Meester, who plays scheming high-school princess Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, was born in a halfway house in Texas in 1986. According to Star mag, Meester's mom, dad, grandfather and aunt were all arrested in 1982 on marijuana smuggling and distribution charges. Meester, who claims to have been born in Florida, not Texas, has never spoken about this.

 Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, her 17-year-old pregnant daughter Bristol and Bristol's self-proclaimed "redneck" boyfriend Levi Johnston have been in the eye of a media storm since John McCain selected Palin as his running mate last week. Considering that Palin has admitted using marijuana, it's likely that Bristol and Levi have smoked pot in the one U.S. state where possession of less than an ounce is legal.

 Barack Obama's dazzling nomination speech at the Democratic National Convention topped off a remarkable week in Denver. One of the many business ventures to capitalize on Obama fever is Obamanator beer, available at Wynkoff Brewing Company on 19th St. It's a "smooth lager," just like the nominee, who now moves on to continued combat with the Republican Party, which convenes next week in Minneapolis to crown John McCain.  Former willd child MacKenzie Phillips was arrested at LAX on Wednesdsy, charged with heroin and cocaine possession. Phillips' mother is Michelle and late father is John - co-founders of the Mamas and the Papas. MacKenzie's step-sister Bijou Phillips and her boyfriend Danny Masterson paid the $10,000 bail. Busted with baggies and foil containing drugs (they literally fell down her pant leg during a search), Phillips told police, "I am healthy except for my drug problem."  At $81.5 million and counting, Pineapple Express has made more money at the box office than any other stoner comedy ever. This is also the biggest year for stoner comedies since 2001. CelebStoner reports that stoner comedies have earned nearly $1 billion since Up in Smoke was released in 1978, and average $24.7 million per movie.
