2. DEA Raids California remained ground zero in the battle for medical marijuana as 53 different medipot shops were targeted by the DEA. Many cities and counties banned the clubs, making it more difficult than ever for patients to acquire their medicine. 3. New Mexico Thanks to Gov. Bill Richardson and former Gov. Gary Johnson, the southwestern state passed legislation making it the 12th to legalize medical marijuana. However, Connecticut's governor vetoed a medipot bill. And in California, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a hemp bill for the second time. 4. Stoner Starlets
5. Candidates for Medipot Virtually every Democrat running for president said he or she opposed the DEA raids, with John Edwards unequivocally declaring he would end them. Meanwhile, the Republicans rudely antagonized patients, with one exception: Ron Paul. 6. Weeds In its third season, Showtime's Weeds continued to break down TV barriers when it comes to an intelligent discussion about and portrayal of marijuana. Kudos to the show's creator Jenji Kohan and the stellar cast led by Mary-Louise Parker. 7. Amy Winehouse & Pete Doherty
8. The Mitchell Report Baseball's steroids scandal went from bad to worse when the former senator exposed 90 players, including Roger Clemens, in his lengthy report. Barry Bonds eclipsed Hank Aaron's all-time home run record, then was indicted for allegedly lying about his steroids use. 9. Paris Hilton The heirhead/pothead went to jail, was released, then sent back again to serve 23 days for her DUI and suspended license charges. People enjoyed watching her squirm and cry, but the sentence didn't fit the crime. Later in the year, both Richie and Lohan got off easy with 82-hour sentences. 10. Owen Wilson
