Jack Black is the modern-day Jeff Spicoli. Born in Southern California, he can make you laugh with a raised eyebrow. His first big movie role was as the record-store clerk in High Fidelity.
He established his cannabis cred with Bongwater (1997), but it wasn't until Orange County (2002) that Black emerged as a fully-formed movie stoner. His Lance character mixes up pharmaceuticals, misplaces clean drug-test pee and burns down a college building while on Ecstasy. The scene with him vacuuming in his underwear is a classic.
With Richard Linklater's School of Rock (2003), he began his career as a lead actor. That was followed by roles in King Kong (2005) and another lead turn in Nacho Libre (2006).
When he's not acting in movies, Black is rocking out with Kyle Gass in their band, Tenacious D. The duo first appeared in their own HBO series in 1999; in 2006, they starred in the stoner-comedy Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
Tenacious D appeared on the cover of High Times and Black portrayed Russell Putnam - "High Times investigative reporter" - on a Saturday Night Live skit in 2003. Tenacious D performed at the NORML benefit concert in Los Angeles in 2004.
His 2008 films include Be Kind Rewind, Kung Fu Panda and Tropic Thunder.
Black is married Tanya Haden. They have one child and are expecting another.
