Boulder's Recreational Smoke Is One Stony Brew

Recreational Smoke, a porter available at West Flanders Brewery in Boulder.

Colorado loves its microbrews as much as its microbuds. The two come together in a beer called Recreational Smoke, offered by a Boulder brewery as a way to celebrate the state's new marijuana law.

There's no cannabis in the stony suds, though West Flanders Brewery at 1125 Pearl St. in Boulder says in its clever announcement that Recreational Smoke "is enhanced with heady Beechwood malts from Bamburg, Germany" that are "paired with an array of other roasted malts with notes of baked brownies and toasted grains, with satisfying smoked flavors throughout. All rolled up in a beer with a mellow 6% ABV."

A 16-ounce mug of Recreational Smoke, which is a porter, sells for $4.80, or 30 cents per ounce.
