Woody Harrelson Shut Out in Effort to Win Dispensary License in Hawaii

Woody Harrelson was hoping to open two marijuana dispensaries and cultivation facilities on Oahu. He lives on Maui.

Out of the 59 applicants in Hawaii for eight dispensary and cultivation licenses, actor Woody Harrelson was not among the eight selected by the Aloha State's health department on Apr. 29.The noted hemp activist, who lives on Maui, applied for a licence in Febraury. His company, Simple Organic Living, was hoping to to open stores on Oahu in Honolulu County.

His application, in the name of "Woodrow Harrelson," was among 31 others on Oahu for three licenses. Each license allows for two stores and two grow facilities. The rest of the applications were for Maui, Kauni and the Big Island. The stores are expected to open as soon as July 15.

In 1996, Harrelson was arrested for planting hemp seeds in Kentucky. At first he only supported hemp legalization, but by 2003, he admitted he was a recreational user at the NORML Conference.

Harrelson follows fellow Top CelebStoner B-Real from Cypress HIll, who last year won a license in Santa Ana, California to open a dispensary and Roseanne Barr, who's investing in Roseanne's Joint, also in Santa Ana. Other celebs getting into the cannabiz include Snoop Dogg, Tommy Chong, the Marley Family, Willie Nelson, Whoopi GoldbergWiz Khalifa, Melissa Etheridge, Ghostface Killah and the band 311.
