Regarding the "Pot White House" story

"For example, using marijuana increases the risk of developing mental disorders by 40 percent, the report said. And teens who smoke pot at least once a month over a yearlong period are three times more likely to have suicidal thoughts than nonusers, it said."

Apparently these people have never heard the phrase "correlation does not prove causation"

YES! Young people who use drugs are very likely to be depressed or suicidal. Does this mean that the drugs are causing this? NO!
Most likely, the young people, like myself, who are depressed, use drugs.

Why in the HELL are we focusing on marijuana, instead of focusing on the SOCIETAL issues that actually CAUSE the depression, thoughts of suicide, and general unhappiness in youth today?
Is it because we don't really care if our kids are hurting and dying?
Or is it just that we REFUSE to take responsibility for the welfare of our children, and would much rather "someone else deal with it" by outlawing anything that could have any possible negative influence on children, whether it's violence on TV or recreational drug use by responsible adults?

This country makes me so sad....
