Laughter ends for TV legend Dick Martin
Half of the comedy team of Rowan & Martin - Dick Martin - passed away on May 24 from respiratory failure. He was 86. Rowan died of cancer in 1987. Rowan played the straight man to Martin's offbeat humor, which included phrases like, "You bet your sweet bippy."
POT CULTURE describes their hit comedy show - Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, which ran on NBC from 1968 to 1973 - as follows:
"No TV show reflected the counterculture outbreak of the late 1960s better than Laugh-In, courtesy of the stand-up comedy team of Dan Rowan and Dick Martin.
Totally slapstick and full of colorful Pop Art and flower-power
imagery, the show introduced Goldie Hawn and featured a wacky cast that included Judy Carne, Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Jo Anne Worley and Alan Sues. They routinely roasted Nixon, and when the doors swing open to the weekly party scene, it turned positively groovy, baby."
