Boston Mayor Tries to Block Dispensaries

Gov. Walsh: "I have made it very clear to the state that I don’t want these dispensaries in our city."

Call him the king of the Stone Age. Backward-thinking Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is doing his best to prevent the opening of two Beantown medipot shops.

“I have made it very clear to the state that I don’t want these dispensaries in our city,’’ Walsh stated at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Monday. "I’m dead set against legalizing marijuana. I was dead set against the marijuana dispensaries and I was dead set against all the marijuana laws because they are dangerous.”

Walsh fired off a letter on Tuesday to the state's secretary of Health and Human Services, questioning the accuracy of applications filed by two approved dispensaries, Green Heart Holistic Health & Pharmaceuticals and Good Chemistry. In the case of Green Heart, Steve DeAngelo's involvement in the company has been raised.

The Democratic Mayor has no real power to block the opening of the stores, but he can effectively delay it. Boston will have to live with Walsh for the next four years; he was elected in November.
