Due to tropical storm Hanna, the 2nd Annual New York Media Softball League playoffs have been rescheduled to Sept. 14. High Times (5-4) will play Wall St. Journal (6-4), and Business Week (8-0) will face Trader Monthly (5-4) in the semifinal round. Last year, the Bonghitters defeated Business Week in the championship game, 8-6. The games begin at 10:15 am, weather permitting.

When Houston-area police pulled over Texan fullback Jameel Cook's
Mercedes for a missing front plate and registration sticker, it
turned out his license was expired and he didn't have proof of
insurance either. On top of all that, a search found two grams of pot in a
Baggie. Cook was charged with misdemeamor marijuana possession and
released on $500 bond, He's the fourth NFL player busted for drugs
since the Super Bowl.

Sacramento Kings' seven-footer Brad Miller will sit out his team's first five games of the upcoming 2008-09 season due to failing three drug tests for marijuana. "All the stress gets to you, and this is one way to take my mind off of everything," says the 10-year veteran. "I'm not a bad guy. I'm still me. It's just one thing I thought would help."

Add Jaguars' wide receiver Matt Jones to the ever-growing list of NFL players arrested for drugs. Amazingly, this morning he was caught chopping cocaine with a credit card in his SUV in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Four months after helping lead the New York Giants to the Super Bowl, running back Ahmad Bradshaw is currently locked up in a Virginia prison, charged with violating probation from an unnamed juvenile offense. Bradshaw ran for 45 yards in the Giants' improbable Super Bowl victory over the Patriots.

Last year's MVP of the Final Four NCAA basketball tourney and current Chicago Bulls forward Joakim Noah was arrested in Gainesville early Sunday morning for having an "open container" of alcohol. During a search, police found a joint inside a cigarette pack. Noah was charged with two misdemeanors and fined $200.

Season Summary & Playoff Matches
For the second season in a row, Business Week not only led the NYMSL but went undefeated. BW has won 18 consecutive regular-season games. The only NYMSL game BW lost was to High Times in last year's championship game. Second-place finisher Wall St. Journal duplicated its 6-4 record from 2007 and secured 2nd place again. HT (also 6-4 in '07) dropped back to 3rd place at 5-4. Last year's 4th-place team at 5-5, DC Comics fell to 6th place with a 1-9 record. Climbing out of the cellar, Trader Monthly improved from 1-9 to 5-4, earning 4th place and its first playoff birth. Last year's 5th-place team WNYC remained there, winning one more game than in '07 (from 2-8 to 3-7).
The NYMSL playoffs will take place on September 14 in Central Park's Heckscher Playground. The matchups are as follows:
Semifinal 1: Trader Monthly vs. Business Week, 10:15 am (Field 5)
Semifinal 2: High Times vs. Wall St. Journal, 10:15 am (Field 6)

Dallas Mavs forward Josh Howard has blown the lid off of one of the NBA's top secrets with stinging comments about league-wide marijuana use among players and his own off-season pot consumption. "That's my personal choice and my personal opinion," Howard says. "But I don't think that's stopping me from doing my job." Indeed - the Mavs defeated the Hornets last night in Game 3 of their playoff series. Howard scored 18 points.
