Texans' Jameel Cook popped for pot Print E-mail

When Houston-area police pulled over Texan starting fullback Jameel Cook's Mercedes for a missing front plate and registration sticker on August 20, Jameel Cook mugshot it turned out his license was expired and he didn't have proof of insurance too. On top of all that, a search found two grams of pot in a Baggie. Cook was charged with misdemeamor marijuana possession and released on $500 bond.

Cook has a Super Bowl ring he won with Tampa Bay in 2003. He was drafted out of Illinois in 2001 and signed with Houston in 2006. A career blocker, Cook has just three touchdowns in his seven-seaon career.

On Aug. 25 - just five days after the arrest - the Texans cut Cook.

On Sept. 30, Cook - after passing drug and polygraph tests - was cleared of the pot charge.

Get comfortable, get careless, get caught.

These are three C's all cannabis users should remember.

Mr. Cook could have obviously prevented this arrest and negative publicity by taking a few preventative measures.

First of all, it is beyond me why a professional athlete should have any problem taking care of simple tasks like renewing a driver's license, or registration sticker.

Secondly, Texas passed legislation last year that gives the officer discretion on whether not to arrest on possession of up to 4 oz. One snag is that you must be a resident of the county in which you are stopped. The other snag is "Officer Discretion?!" Have you ever been to Texas?

The point is, if you find yourself, an unlicensed driver driving around in an unregistered vehicle in Texas, and you've got 2 grams of pot on you, best eat that shit when you see blue and red lights behind you.

good night and good luck.
