Chiefs' Bowe Suspended by NFL

Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe’s mug shots taken by Riverside Police on Nov. 10.

Five months after Chiefs star wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was busted busted for marijuana possession near Kansas City on Nov. 10, 2013 the charge was dropped.

However, despite this, the NFL suspended Bowe - the Chiefs' second leading all-time receiver - for one game on Aug. 15. He'll sit out the 2014 season opener against Tennessee.

Bowe accepted the suspension, stating: "I made an error in judgment. I take responsibility for my mistake and it will not happen again. I will be supporting my teammates in Week 1, and I cannot wait to get back on the field to help us win in Week 2 and beyond as we work toward our goal of winning the Super Bowl.”

Police pulled his Audi 8 over on West Platte Rd. in Riverside for speeding (48 mph in a 35-mph zone) at 11:55 pm on the night in question. They smelled marijuana, called for a K-9 and found nearly 16 grams of pot and two joints on board. Police charged Bowe with possession of a controlled substance and speeding, and held him on $750 bail.

On Apr. 16, Bowe paid $610 in fines for amended charges of littering and defective equipment.

Bowe violated the NFL's substance abuse policy in 2009 when he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs; he was suspended for four games.

The 6-2, 220-pound receiver totaled 57 catches for 673 yards and five TDs in 2013. Drafted out of LSU in 2007, Bowe has three 1,000-yard seasons.
