Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey's screen debut in Dazed and Confused is stoner-movie history. In one classic scene, his overgrown high-school student Wooderson asks incoming frosh Mitch: "Say man, you got a joint?"
Dumbfounded, Wiggins mumbles: "Ah, no, not on me, man."
In his best Texas drawl, Wooderson replies: "It’d be a lot cooler if you did."
Born on Nov. 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas, McConaughey has since appeared in more than 30 movies, including A Time to Kill, Lone Star, Amistad, The Newtown Boys, The Wedding Planner, Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sahara, We Are Marshall, Fool's Gold, Tropic Thunder, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie, Killer Joe, Mud, Magic Mike, Intrsteller, White Boy Rick, The Beach Bum and The Gentlemen. He also has appeared in Eastbound and Down, True Detective and Agent Elvis. He'll next appear in The Lost Bus.

McConaughey was arrested in Austin in 1999 for possessing marijuana and paraphernaila, and for playing loud music with fellow Dazed and Confused alum Cole Hauser. Observed banging the bongos naked, this made for amusing tabloid headlines. The pot charges were dropped, and he paid a $50 fine for the noise violation. He's said about the infamous incident.
"[It] was real enjoyable until I looked up and saw someone in the house who I knew I hadn’t invited. [Things became] less enjoyable when he [the police officer] was tryin’ to pin me to the ground and I was fightin’ back. It sucked when I was goin’ into the jail, and once I got in jail it became enjoyable again because there were some real fun cellmates. We were singin’ songs."
In his latest book Poems & Prayers, he explains wehy he not longer smokes marijuana:
"Back in the days when I used to smoke weed, it was Mexican dirt weed. The kind where you passed the joint around, laughed, got the munchies and hopefully snuck off for some good sex. Instead of being a tiny toke of easy inspiration, it turned into a paralysis puff of fucking analysis. Suddenly, I’d find myself stuck for hours staring at that one grain in that one piece of wood in my ceiling rafters, thinking it was trying to tell me something important. It wasn’t... That’s why I quit smoking.”
McConaughey and the Brazilian-born Camila Alves married in 2012. They have two sons and a daughter.
