Ann Wilson Offers Prizes for Best Karaoke Versions of Heart Hit 'Magic Man'

Written by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart's "Magic Man" is about a young woman who meets the so-called "magic man" and agrees to hang out with him and "get high for awhile."

Heart's first single peaked at No. 9 on the charts in 1975. It was released by Mushroom Records.

Ann Wilson is celebrating the 45th anniversary of "Magic Man" with a karaoke contest. Here are the details from her website:

"Send a cellphone or other karaoke video of you or yours performing 'Magic Man' for a chance to win five different Ann Wilson prize packs. Perform as a group over Zoom, by yourself, with your kids or whatever you want.

"Only public URL links will be accepted. Please double-check URL links before entering. We require the submission to be original, fun and artistic. You may enter online only before the deadline of 8/16/2020."

Here's the karaoke version of "Magic Man":

"Magic Man" Lyrics

Cold, late night so long ago
When I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
I never seen eyes so blue
You know, I could not run away it seemed
We'd seen each other in a dream
Seemed like he knew me, he looked right through me, yeah

"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet, let's get high awhile
But try to understand, try to understand
Try, try, try to understand, I'm a magic man"

Nancy and Ann Wilson, circa 1975

Winter nights we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
"Never think of never let this spell last forever"
Well, summer lover passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says she's worried, growing up in a hurry

Chorus (3x)
