Stoner Rock is Back with STÖNER's 'Rad Stays Rad'

Bassist Nick Olivieri and drummer Brant Bjork have formed STÖNER out of he ashes of Kyuss, the stoner-rock band that included Josh Homme before he left to start Queens of the Stone Age.

Kyuss were the pioneers of stoner-rock, a metal style that fuses doom rock with psychedelia. Sixties band Blue Cheer are considered the proto stoner-rock band. The movement took off in the '90s in the Southern California desert with bands like Kyuss, Sleep, High on Fire, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity and Electric Wizard. Soundgarden is also considered a stoner-rock band.

"I guess we get the stoner-rock label because of the whole pot thing," says High on Fire's Matt Pike.
