Canadian political prisoner Marc Emery plays bass in a band in the Federal Correctional Institution in Yazoo City, Mississippi. However, photos posted of the band, named Yazoo, recently landed him in solitary confinement.

Emery has been in jail since 2010, convicted of selling marijuana seeds from Canada to U.S. customers. The warden decided to confine Emery while the prison investigated if the photos in question were taken by a cellphone. The rest of the band members were also confined.

Emery's wife, Jodi, says Marc had received approval for the photos to be taken. Several were posted on his Cannabis Culture blog in April.

She tweeted: "Marc is still in solitary, for pictures the prison approved & took themselves but claim were taken w/ a prohibited cellphone!"

Yazoo mostly covers songs originally performed by classic rockers like Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Santana and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Emery's sentence ends in July 2014. "For some reason, I have to stay in prison longer than any other sentenced inmate," he writes. The founder of Cannabis Culture and Emery Seeds is hoping for an early release, and the return to his native Canada.

Update: On July 10, Jodi Emery told Cannabis Culture that the U.S. Department of Justice has approved Marc's transfer to a Canadian facility. Canada has yet to sign off on this proposal.
