Willie Nelson's Braids Auctioned for $37K

Back in 1983, Willie Nelson cut off his braids and gave them to fellow Highwayman Waylon Jennings "to cheer (him) on during his path to sobriety," according to auction house Guernsey's, who sold them for $37,000 on Oct. 5.

The "Remembering Waylon" sale, held at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, offered a treasure trove of Jennings memorabilia, including photos, instruments, awards, and stage outfits and equipment. Lot 249 was named "Willie Nelson's Trademark Braids, 1983." The braids are red. Jennings' widow, Jessi Colter, organized the auction.

Nelson tells CelebStoner about the sale: "Somebody has a lot of money. Ha!"

The most valuable item sold was Lot 235, "Buddy Holly & Waylon Jennings' 1958 Ariel Cyclone motorcycle," which was given to Jennings after Holly's death in 1959. Jennings played bass in Holly's post-Crickets' band. The bike went for $450,000.
