Distinction: Known alternatively as Ziggy Stardust, he had 11 songs that cracked the Top 30, including "Space Oddity" (No. 15, 1969), "Fame" (No. 1, 1975), "Under Pressure" (No. 29, 1981), "Let's Dance" (No. 1, 1983), "Blue Jean" (No. 8, 1984) and "Dancing in the Street" (No. 7, 1985).

Note: Bowie was arrested for marijuana possession along with Iggy Pop and several others during a raid at the Americana Rochester Hotel in Rochester, NY in March 1976. Police confiscated a half pound of marijuana and charged Bowie with a Class C felony. He was released on $2,000 bail. The charge was dismissed two months later.
