Distinction: One of the great jazz vibes players of all time, he recorded as a sideman with Eric Dolphy, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Lee Morgan and many others.

Note: Hutcherson was arrested for marijuana possession in New York's Central Park with drummer Joe Chambers in 1967. This resulted in the loss of his cabaret card, which at the time was required for performing musicians in New York.
