Godfather Grass? Apocalypse Nugs? Famous movie director Francis Ford Coppola, who's already known for his wine brand, is moving into the marijuana business. His Sána Company will be releasing three flower strains under the Grower's Series brand, all grown outdoors (or sun grown) at different locations in Humboldt County.

Francis Ford Coppola: "Wine and cannabis are two ancient and bounteous gifts of Mother Nature, linked by great care, terroir and temperateness. Expertise making one applies to the other. As with growing grapes, location matters, and The Grower’s Series reflects California agricultural expertise creating a true blend of art and science."

Keeping with the wine theme, the flower is packaged in one-gram "bottle-shaped tins." Deliveries via Cali Chill are slated to begin this month "in select Northern California cities." San Franciscans in the know got to sample the strains grown by Tan Oaks Farms, Benbow Farm and Salmon Creek Farm at an infused dinner on Oct. 30.

Cannabis doesn't play a role in The Godfather movies, which Coppola directed, but there is a pot scene on the boat in Apocalypse Now. He hasn't directed a major movie since The Rainmaker in 1997. Based in Northern California, Coppola appears to have plenty of time to devote to his newest venture.
