On a 'Mission from God': Blues Brothers Weed Brand Launches in Illinois

The first Blues Brothers/Grassroots Cannabis strain is Bubba D.

John Belushi died in 1982, but his Saturday Night Live partner Dan Aykroyd and brother Jim Belushi have kept the Blues Brothers alive, playing concerts pre-Covid and now releasing the first cannabis strain based on the legendary band.

On September 3, Bubba D (Bubba Kush x Triangle Kush), went on sale at Grassroots Cannabis in Skokie, Illinois as a tribute to where the original Blues Brothers movie was filmed 40 years ago. The Belushi family is from Chicago. Aykroyd hails from Ottawa and currently lives in Calgary.

Dan Aykroyd: "Cannabis does heal!"

Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen, Jim Belushi and Grassroots management attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the brand-new store at 10000 Skokie Blvd.

Belushi has been hyping his collaboration with Aykroyd and John's wife Judy on Growing Belushi, the reality-TV series about his pot farm in Medford, Oregon.

On the third episode, the Blues Brothers briefly perform for a harvest party at the farm, where Aykroyd declares:

"More and more people come to me and they tell me stories about how cannabis has helped with pain, with troubles pyschological and physical. Cannabis does heal!

"In the spirit and memory of his late brother Jake Blues, myself and Judy convey to Jimmy all rights to put the Blues Brothers label on the products that come from this beautiful, joyous, positive farm. We're on a mission from God!

"An immense amount of good can come from the exposure through the Blues Brothers' working man's brand and I place that in his hands and I know he's going to be the most capable of delivery because he is the Illinois alpha male.

"He is strong, passionate, driven. Judy and I felt now's the time. He will do us proud."
