Willie Nelson Wants 4/20 to Be a National Holiday

Willie Nelson tokes on his "High Holiday" page.

In 2015, Bill Maher said 4/20 should be a national holiday. "It's high time we had a weed day," he commented on Real Time and started a petition. It has 32,000 supporters.

Six years later, Willie Nelson has launched his own 4/20 holiday drive. In fact, he and his Luck Presents team in Texas would like to see recognition of the "High Holidays" from April 20 to Nelson's birthday on April 29.

"In reality for cannabis users, one day just isn't enough," the tongue-in-cheek petition reads. A letter posted at change.org and directed to the White House says, in part:

"We believe that recognition of the 'High Holidays' opens the door to much needed dialogue supporting the many benefits of cannabis while helping to remove the unjustified stigmas currently surrounding this amazing plant.  Please puff, puff and pass this to your friends in Congress for consideration."

The letter ends with this Nelson quote:

"We're only talking about stems and seeds. That's all marijuana is, and I figure God must have made those stems and seeds for a reason."
