The son of Georgia Rep. Paul Broun, Jr. was arrested for marijuana possession in Athens early Saturday morning.

Police pulled over Paul Broun III, 23, and a passenger in a 2014 Cadillac at 4:20 am in a University of Georgia parking lot after the car had stopped in an intersection at East Broad and Lumpkin Streets. They smelled marijuana, search the car, and found a Baggie and a film canister containing cannabis. Broun was charged with possession and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Broun's famous father has represented Georgia's 10th District, which includes Athens, since 2007. A Republican and Tea Party member, Broun is running for the Senate in November.
