A routine traffic violation turned into a marijuana arrest when rapper Twista's Rolls Royce was pulled over en route to a concert in South Haven. Police in Portage charged Twista (Carl Mitchell) and three others with misdemeanor possession and took them to jail.

It all the took place at 10:38 pm Mar. 24 on U.S. 6 at Willowbrook Rd. Twista was allegedly following the SUV ahead of him too closely. Police smelled marijuana in the car and found a half-ounce in a stash can int he vehicle.

The four each paid a $500 bond in order to be released from Porter County Jail.

Police were staking out the area around the club, Big Shots, because of previous drug activity and violence at hip-hop shows. The arrest forced Twista to cancel his performance.

He told TMZ after being released from jail at 4 am Mar. 25:

'It was just a messed up situation with a little bit of smoke allegedly and we suffered the consequences and the fans did too.'

Twista raps about marijuana on his 2009 song, "Fire"...

Twista had a No. 1 hit with "Slow Jamz" featuring Jamie Fox and Kaye West in 2003. He's had four Top 10 albums. His last, Dark Horse, came out in 2014.
