Despite being in a vehicle with more than 10 ounces of weed, Chicago rapper G Herbo was not charged for the cannabis during a traffic stop in the Windy City on July 8, However, he was arrested for having a handgun.

Herbo (nee Herbert Wright III) was hit with a misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon (he doesn't have a license to own or carry a gun). The nearly 300 grams recovered, valued at $1,500, did not result in a felony for Herbo. Another man in the vehicle was charged with manufacture or delivery of cannabis.

Illinois law states that possession of 100-500 grams is punishable by 1-3 years in jail and a maximum $25,000 fine. Possession of less than 30 grams is legal.

This is not Herbo's first run-in with the law. In 2018, he was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon, pled guilty and received a suspended sentence. In 2019, Herbo was busted for simple battery after an incident with the mother of his child. In 2020, he and several others were indicted on 14 federal charges involving wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in Massachusetts. The defendents are accused of using stolen credit card details to make expensive purchases. That case is still pending.

G Herbo's last three albums made the Top 10. He's featured on Nardo Wick's 2021 hit, "Who Want Smoke??"
