Busted for a Gram and a Gun: Texas Police Nab Cowboys' Lineman Sam Williams

Cowboys’ DE Sam Williams and his mug shot

Celebrities don't get arrested for marijuana like they used to. These days celeb weed busts mostly happen in states that have yet to legalize cannabis for adult or medical use.

Case in point: Dallas Cowboys' troubled defensive lineman Sam Williams who on August 20 was charged with possession of a controlled substance (cannabis) and the unlawful carrying of a weapon in Frisco, TX. Texas is a fully prohibited state (only CBD is legal).

It's unclear how the arrest went down, though it most likely was a traffic stop.

"Frisco police confirmed to FOX 4 that the controlled substance was less than one gram of THC, which is a state felony." the Dallas-Ft. Worth news outlet reported.

In December, Williams had a nasty car crash in Plano. The police report said he "drove as fast as 98 mph in a 55 mph zone, weaving between vehicles, in the final seconds before the crash." Both drivers sustained minor injuries. Charged with reckless driving, Williams was ultimately not arrested.

Following the recent incident, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones inanely joked that at least Williams was driving within the speed limit this time:

"He is 34 miles per hour less this year than last year, 98 to 66. That’s improvement. We will get it down. We will keep working. We will get it down."

Dallas selected Williams in the second round of the 2022 draft out of the University of Mississippi. In 15 games in his rookie season, he had four sacks.
