Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in a Romanian jail for illegal drug use stemming from smoking joints on stage at the Beach, Please! festival in Costinești on July 13, 2023. He also was charged possessing 18 grams of weed.
"It's unclear if Romanian authorities will try to extradite Khalifa back to the county," Rolling Stone reports. "At the moment, there doesn't appear to be any rtsk of him serving a sentence."
The rapper was arrested/detained in Romania at the the Black Sea event where stage messages in English read on video screens during the concert, "Smoke one if you love yourself," "Soccer moms love pot" and "Weed is the new wine."
Khalifa faces a sentence of three months to two years in jail or a fine. It's unclear whether he will extradited or what the next step is.
Romanian authorities allowed the show to go on, but afterwards policia discovered cannabis in Khalifa's possession. The policia report, translated, reads:
"On 14.07.2024, the prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism - Constanța Territorial Service ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against a defendant (US citizen), investigated for the crime of illegal drug possession risk. It was noted that he, during a recital held during a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another amount of cannabis under shape of a hand-rolled cigarette. Judicial activities are carried out together with the policemen of the Constanța Organized Crime Brigade. We make it clear that, during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence."
Khalifa tweeted:
"Last nights show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time."

Questions have been raised about the wisdom of booking Khalifa in Romania where recreational drugs are prohibited. What he might be able to get away with on stage in California, Canada and New York where weed's legal, is not acceptable in the former Eastern bloc socialist country. One media outlet reported, "If found guilty, Khalifa could face a 10-year prison sentence." That's unlikely. In 2014, Romania reduced penalties for drug offenses. Personal use can result in fines and sentences from three to 36 months.
