Illinois Legalizes Medical Marijuana

Illinois Medical Marijuana

On Aug. 1, Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation that will make Illinois the 20th medical marijuana state. The Illinois Senate voted 35-21 in favor of the bill on May 17.

House Bill 1 creates 60 dispensaries where patients with any of 42 different ailments can purchase up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis grown at 22 cultivation centers every two weeks. However, home growing is not allowed.
