Marijuana Arrests in U.S. Continue to Decline (2012)

Marijuana Arrests

The latest government stats for marijuana arrests show a slight 1% dip from last year. There were 749,825 pot busts made in 2012, 83% for possession and 17% for sales and manufacturing.

Last year that figured dropped 12%. There were 757,969 marijuana arrests in 2011 and 853,838 in 2010.

Of the nearly 1.6 million drug arrests made in the country in 2012, nearly half (48.3%) were for marijuana. Drug arrests top all arrests, followed by DUI (1.5 million) and larceny/theft (1.5 million). Drug arrests account for 12.7% of all arrests made in the U.S. in 2012 (12.2 million).
