Swiss citizens 18 and older can now carry up to 10 grams of marijuana without fear of arrest. If caught, the penalty is the equivalent of $110.

Switzerland's new decrim law went into effect on Oct. 1. In the past, more then 30,000 low-level marijuana arrests were being made each year.

Four cantons, or states (Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchatel, Vaud) already allow individuals to grow up to four cannabis plants.

Switzerland joins the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and the Czech Republic as the sixth nation in Europe to decriminalize marijuana.
