New York marijuana activist Dana Beal was released from a Nebraska jail on Feb. 12, 2014. At first he was homeless due to 9 Bleecker St. in New York being shuttered. But then he was offered residence in a former synagogue.
Beal served back-to-back sentences for marijuana trafficking in Wisconsin and Nebraska. During his three years away, 9 Bleecker was converted into the Yippie Museum Café. However, the building has been foreclosed on, and all residents and property were removed on Jan. 17.
"The want him to stay in a nice, stable environment," says his lawyer Noah Potter. "He needs to come here and settle in."
