4. Bernie Sanders Called for End of Marijuana Prohibition

The day after Election Day, presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders filed a bill in the Senate that would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, which would essentially decriminalize it federally. At a Town Hall a few days earlier, the maverick Congressman stated: "The time is long overdue for us to remove the federal prohibition on marijuana. In my view, states should have the right to regulate marijuana the same way state and local laws now govern the sale of alcohol and tobacco." Several days later, Sanders' chief competition, Hillary Clinton, proposed moving marijuana from "Schedule I to Schedule II so that researchers at universities and national institutes of health can start researching what is the best way to use it."
