Legal Recreational Marijuana Sales Start in Michigan

Greenstone Provions in Ann Arbor is one of three shops in Michigan that will sell marijuana to adults starting December 1.

Michigan became the eighth state to sell marijuana for adult use on December 1.

Just eight stores have received licenses so far. Three of the four in Ann Arbor were the first to open.

Michigan became the 10th state to legalize recreational marijuana on Nov. 6, 2018 when voters passed Prop 1 on the ballot. It allow adults to possess up to 2.5 ounces of flower and 15 grams of concentrate as well as grow up to 12 plants. The tax rate is 10%. 

All of the stores are transitioning from medical to recreational sales. Eight licenses have been awarded and another 73 are awaiting approval. However, 80% of Michigan cities and towns have so far opted out of legal marijuana sales.
