Green Wednesday and Black Friday: Second and Third Biggest Days in Cannabis Retail

It’s Green Wednesday in the cannabis industry - that means go find some sales.

Akerna reports $98.2 million in legal cannabis sales took place on Green Wednesday, Nov. 24. Black Friday , Nov. 26, did even better with $99 million in sales.

The biggest sales day of the year, of course, is 4/20.

"In anticipation of these major increases in sales and traffic, dispensaries and retailers should prepare their staff and promotions accordingly," Akerna business intelligence architect .James Ahrendt, stated in advance of Green Wednesday.  "Whether people are turning to cannabis for relaxation, to nurture a sense of togetherness or for other reasons, consumers have made it clear that cannabis is part of Thanksgiving preparation."

The software company forecasted sales of $251 million legal cannabis products over the four-day holiday from Nov. 24-27, "a 60% increase over daily average sales," with $90 million on Green Wednesday alone, "a 78% spike from daily averages." Sales topped their forecast.
