Kacey Musgraves completed an amazing 2013 by winning New Artist of the Year at the 47th Annual Country Music Awards on Nov. 6. She went into the night nominated for six awards, tied with Taylor Swift for most nominations.
The Texas-born singer performed “Follow Your Arrow” off her CMA-nominated album, Same Trailer Different Park. However, ABC cut the live audio feed when she sang the lyric "roll up a joint," which repeated three times.
Other stony moments during the show included Kenny Rogers receiving the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Created in 2012 to honor Nelson's legacy, Rogers is the first person outside of Nelson to receive the coveted award. During the presentation, Rascal Flatts performed "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)," a psychedelic hit from 1968 about LSD by The First Edition (with Kenny Rogers on lead vocals). The song is famously featured in the 1998 stoner classic, The Big Lebowski.
Eric Church rocked the CMAs with his new high tune, "The Outsiders." Flames shot out on stage during the rousing number, and Darius Rucker closed the ceremony with a rendition of Dylan's "Wagon Wheel," featuring the line, "Had a nice long toke."
