Comedy Special: Matt Besser's 'Pot Humor'

One quarter of the sketch-comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, Matt Besser hasn't had similar success as his UCB mates Amy Poehler and Matt Walsh. But he is trying. Besser's Pot Humor special has a similar vibe as Doug Benson's standup. It's 70 minutes of observations, pro and con, about marijuana, what he calls a "Ted Talk for stoners."

Filmed at the Northwest Cannabis Club in Portland - a social use venue where patrons can light up in their seats - Besser's special caters to that crowd.

Joking about the pre-rec days when you had to come up with a reason to get a medical recommendation, Besser mimics the 420 doctor: "Why do you need a prescription for marijuana?"

"TV is really boring to me."

Actually, Besser told him chronic back pain was the reason. But that led to the doctor making suggestions to improve his posture and shoes when all he wanted was a legal approval.

"What is this doctor's motherfucking problem. Is this doctor trying to help me? If he helps me with my back is he not going to give me weed?"

Then he riffs on where you have to go to get your medical marijuana.

"Dispensary sounds like a FEMA tent set up outside a disaster area. Everybody head to the dispensary for rations. The first dispensary that opened in my neighborhood was caled Starbuds. Does that sound like a legit pharmacy to you?"

There are some special effect to simulate being high and a terrier barks occasionally to indicate a buzz kill.

Besser has fun with strain names like Dog Shit.

"In another year, there's gonna be satellites that beam THC right into your brains," he predicts.
