11. Panama Red - New Riders of the Purple Sage (1973)

He'll steal your woman, then he'll rob your head.

This Grateful Dead offshoot band went on to record seven significant albums for Columbia Records, including The Adventures of Panama Red. By this point Buddy Cage had replaced Jerry Garcia on pedal steel guitar in the band. The country-rock title track, written by Peter Rowan, tells about a redheaded weed smuggler.
