Distinctions: The Dutch-born, California-raised musician co-founded Van Halen in 1972; one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time known for his tapping technique; inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, Van Halen had a No. 1 hit with "Jump" in 1984 (watch below), plus eight other Top 20 singles (all of which the guitarist co-wrote); the band released a dozen albums from 1978-2012, four of which charted at No. 1; Van Halen's 1991 album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge earned them their only Grammy award for Best Hard Rock Performance; Eddie Van Halen also played on Michael Jackson's "Beat It."
