Distinctions: Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014, Charlie Daniels had hits with "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" (No. 3, 1979, watch below), "Uneasy Rider" (No. 9, 1973), "In America" (No. 13, 1980), "Still in Saigon" (No. 22, 1982), "The South's Gonna Do It" (No. 29, 1975), "The Legend of Wooly Swamp" (No. 31, 1980) and "Long Haired Country Boy" (No. 56, 1975, listen below); the latter songs's lyrics go, "I don't want much of nothing at all but I will take another toke"; from 1970-2016 he released 30 albums, won a Grammy for "Devil" and received six total nominations.

• Chris Darrow - Jan. 15; former member of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he played multiple instruments on two albums, Rare Junk in 1968 and Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy in 1970) and founder of the Dry City Scat Band, the Floggs, Kaleidescope and the Corvettes; suffered a stroke; was 75.

Scott "Mac" Davis - Sept. 29; the Texas-born country singer, songwriter and actor had crossover hits with "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" (No. 1, 1972, watch below), "Stop and Smell the Roses" (No. 9, 1974) and "One Hell of a Woman" (No. 11, 1974) and starred in a number of movies including the 1979 stoner-football flick North Dallas Forty; also wrote "In the Ghetto" and other songs for Elvis Presley; suffered from heart disease; was 78.
