Distinctions: Considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, from 1960-1965, McCoy Tyner was a member of the great John Coltrane Quartet with bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones; he played on 28 Coltrane albums, including A Love Supreme (1964), which received two Grammy nominations; from 1960-2009, he released 78 solo albums; he was nominated for 12 Grammys and won five - for Blues for Coltrane: A Tribute to John Coltrane in 1988, The Turning Point in 1992, Journey in 1994, Infinity in 1995 and Illuminations in 2004.
