Seven Stony 2022 Grammy Nominees, Including Nelson, McCartney, Handler and Bieber

2022 Grammy nominees (from left): Willie Nelson, Chelsea Handler and Paul McCartney.

The 2022 Grammy nominations have been announced and a number of CelebStoners are on the receiving end.

Willie Nelson

Nelson's album That's Life is nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category. It's his 53rd Grammy nom; he's won 10 times, including in 2020. Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's Love for Sale will most likely take this category.

Paul McCartney

In our review of McCartney III, we wrote about the "Find My Way," which is up for Best Rock Song: "The closest song to a single on the album, it’s full of McCartney pop flourishes as well as surprising falsetto vocals on the chorus." As a solo artist, McCartney has 79 Grammy noms and 18 wins. Macca will probably lose to the Foo Fighters ("Waiting on a War"), whom he recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Chelsea Handler

The comedian's first Grammy nom is for Evolution in the Best Comedy Album category. Handler is the only woman nominated in the category that includes Louis CK, who was accused by five women in 2015 of sexual misconduct, and Kevin Hart, who was stripped of hosting the 2018 Oscars over homophobic tweets. "I took my SATs tripping on acid," Handler said in her HBO special. "I didn't get into college, but I had a great time taking that test." If there's any justice, she'll win her first Grammy.

Justin Bieber

The Canadian pop star scored big with six total 2022 nominations. Half are for his hit song "Peaches" (Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best R&B Performance) on which he brags: "I get my weed from California/ Pass that shit." Peaches has since been branded as Bieber's weed strain. He also received noms for Justice (Best Pop Vocal Album), "Anyone" (Best Pop Vocal Performance) and "Lonely" (Best Pop Duo/Group Performance). Bieber has won two Grammys (out of 14 noms), but none for his most popular songs. This might be his year.

Kacey Musgraves

Our fave female country singer is also a Grammy favorite. She's won six out of nine nominations. This year she's nominated for "camera roll" (lower case) as Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. However, Musgraves' Star-Crossed was excluded from the Best Country Album category because it was deemed by the Grammys as "not sufficiently country." It's not nominated as Best Pop Album either. Odd.

Dave Chappelle

The controversial stand-up comic is on a Grammys winning streak. Chappelle has won the three times he's been nominated for Best Comedy Album (2017-2019). However, his Netlix special 8:46 is in the Best Spoken Word Album category. He'll lose to Barack Obama's A Promised Land

Blues Traveler

The New York jam-band is back with their first nomination since 1995 when they won for "Run-Around" (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals). The 2021 release, Traveler's Blues, is nominated in the Best Traditonal Blues Album category as opposed to the Best Contemporary Blues Album Category. It probably belongs in the latter.

Best Reggae Album

For the first time in several years, no Marley album is nominated in this category. Last year, Toots & the Maytals' final album, Got to Be Tough, took the award.

The 2022 reggae nominees are:

Pamoja - Etana

Positive Vibration - Gramps Morgan

Live N Livin - Sean Paul

Royal - Jesse Royal

Beauty in the Silence - Soja

10 - Spice
