'Uprooted' in California: A New Series from Weedmaps

Weedmaps has produced an important three-part series about legalization in California since it passed in 2016 and went into effect in 2018. Directed by Nicholas Holt, Uprooted takes a critical look at Prop 64 and how it's been implemented.

Episode 1: California's Complicated

The series begins with an overview of California cannabis laws from Prop 215 in 1996 to Prop 64 in 2016 and introduces talking heads Jazmin Aguilar, John Entwistle Jr., Virgil Grant, Keika Keith, Sean Kiernan, Kenji Klein, Jerard Johnson, Evan Low, Jessica McElfresh, Sweetleaf Joe, Adam Spiker and Scott Weiner.

Episode 2: Patients Left Behind

This episode focuses on the passage of State Senator Weiner's SB 34 bill that permits dispenararies to make donations of cannabis to patients.

Episode 3: Inadequate and Inequitable

Since Prop 64 allows cities and towns to opt out of retail sales, we learn in this episode that 77% of the state's residents do not have easy access to medical or recreational cannabis. While the illegal market thrives, it's hard for legal businesses to survive. The failure to make legalization more equitable for people of color is also discussed.

Weedmaps provides information about pot stores and dispensaries all over the country.
