Michael Keaton won a 2002 Golden Globe award for his portrayal of Dr. Sam Finnix on Hulu's Dopesick and has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award. Andy McKay's Don't Look Up is up for SAG's coveted Outstanding Cast award.
The opioids drama Dopesick received three Golden Globe nominations for Best Limited Series, Best Performance by an Actor, Limited Series (Keaton) and Best Supporting Actress, Television (Kaitlyn Dever) in a Limited Series. Dopesick depicts Purdue Pharma and its devastating promotion of OxyContin as a non-addictive painkiller.
Dr. Finnix is courted by Purdue and eventually gets hooked on the meds he's prescribing to locals like Betsy (Dever), a coal miner who gets hurt on the job. Rosario Dawson as DEA agent Bridget Meyer also deserved a nom for her dogged advocacy.
McKay's comet farce Don't Look Up earned four nominations for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Screenplay (McKay) and Best Actress and Actor (Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio). The duo play astronomers who discover the comet. In a stressful moment, Kate (Lawrence) says, "I've got to get high." Soon, she's hitting a pot pipe. Don't Look Out was shut out on Jan. 9. West Side Story was named best movie musical or comedy.
